In a notable achievement, Indian batsman Abhishek Sharma and enigmatic spinner Varun Chakaravarthy have steadfastly maintained their career-high second positions in the latest ICC T20I rankings for batters and bowlers, respectively.
According to the recent update released by the ICC, Hardik Pandya leads the list of all-rounders with 252 points, outpacing Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee, who has 233 points, and Australia’s Marcus Stoinis, with 210 points. Indian talents Tilak Varma and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav are in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, on the batting leaderboard unveiled on Wednesday. With 856 rating points, Australia’s Travis Head tops the batting rankings, while England’s Phil Salt is in third place with 815 points. Abhishek’s impressive 829 points place him in close contention behind Head.
In the bowling rankings, spearheaded by West Indies’ Akeal Hosein with 707 points, Varun Chakaravarthy trails by just one point at 706, closely followed by England’s spinner Adil Rashid (705 points), Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga (700), and Australia’s Adam Zampa (694). India’s Ravi Bishnoi occupies the sixth spot with 674 points, and left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is positioned ninth with 653 points.
There has been minimal change among Indian players in the rankings due to their hiatus from international fixtures since their home series against England concluded in February. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s opening duo of Tim Seifert and Finn Allen, alongside pace bowler Jacob Duffy, have made significant advances in the player rankings after propelling their team to a 2-0 series lead against Pakistan in a five-match T20I series. Seifert and Allen established strong opening partnerships in both encounters, the highlight being a dominant 66-run partnership in the second match at Dunedin. In their chase of 136 runs, New Zealand triumphed with 11 balls and five wickets to spare. Seifert’s innings of 44 off 29 balls in Christchurch and 45 off 22 balls in the second match contributed to his ascent by 20 slots to 13th position. Allen has also climbed eight spots to 18th position after scoring 29 not out off 17 balls and 38 off 16 balls, respectively.
Jacob Duffy, with an impressive haul of six wickets across the two games, including an exceptional four for 14 in New Zealand’s emphatic nine-wicket victory in the series opener, has surged by 23 slots to achieve a career-best 12th position. Additional players making strides in the latest rankings include New Zealand bowlers Ish Sodhi (up two places to 36th), Ben Sears (up 22 spots to 67th), and Zakary Foulkes (up 41 places to 90th), along with Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, who has advanced four places to 26th.
