26.03.2025### Mumbai Indians Face “Challenge” Without Jasprit Bumrah: Head Coach Ahead of IPL 2025 Match Against CSK
Mumbai Indians’ head coach, Mahela Jayawardene, has acknowledged the significant challenge posed by the absence of their star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, as the team prepares for the IPL 2025. Bumrah, who is currently recovering from a back injury at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, will miss the initial phase of the tournament.
During Mumbai Indians’ pre-season press briefing on Wednesday, Jayawardene stated, “Jasprit is at the NCA, and we’re awaiting regular updates on his recovery. His rehabilitation is progressing day by day.” He further added, “His absence is a considerable challenge, given that Bumrah is arguably the best bowler in the world.”
Bumrah’s last appearance was during the final Test against Australia in Sydney, where he was unable to bowl in the second innings due to his injury, contributing to a 3-1 series victory for the Australians. The timeline for Bumrah’s return remains uncertain, yet team captain Hardik Pandya expressed optimism about the pacer’s presence in the team environment, highlighting his leadership qualities and experience.
Bumrah is expected to join his Mumbai teammates in early April to continue his rehabilitation. Pandya remarked, “Having senior players like Rohit, Surya, and Bumrah around is invaluable. Their support on and off the field is immense.”
