27.03.2025**Afghanistan vs Bangladesh: Prospective T20I Series in October 2025**
Authored by Atif Azam
Afghanistan aims to host Bangladesh for a T20I series in October 2025, following previous postponements of the anticipated encounter. Both cricket boards have initiated discussions, eyeing a three-match T20I series as part of their strategic preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup taking place in India and Sri Lanka.
A representative from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), involved in organizing the tour schedule, stated to Cricbuzz: “We have commenced discussions with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) about the series that was delayed earlier. We plan to continue the dialogue post-Ramadan and aim to play three T20Is as part of our World Cup preparation.”
Sources suggest the series is expected to kick off in early October. An ACB official mentioned, “Referring to the Future Tours Programme (FTP), a window seems available between October 2-12. We are currently negotiating to lock in the schedule and itinerary.”
Originally, Afghanistan was set to host Bangladesh for a series comprising two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is in July 2024. This plan was deferred at the request of the BCB, who cited workload management concerns. Subsequently, ACB proposed a white-ball series in July-August at Greater Noida, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is. However, the BCB declined, citing the climatic unsuitability of hosting an international series in that Indian location.
As an alternative, Bangladesh and Afghanistan engaged in a three-match ODI series in the UAE in November, serving as a precursor to the ICC Champions Trophy. The cricket boards remain committed to finding an opportune time for the postponed two-match Test series.
