The grand finale of the Champions Trophy 2025 concluded at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS), with India emerging victorious. However, controversy surrounded the event with Pakistan raising concerns over the absence of a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) representative at the presentation ceremony, despite being the tournament’s hosts.
The ceremony, attended by ICC Chair Jay Shah, BCCI President Roger Binny, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, and NZC Director Roger Twose, notably lacked a PCB official. Shoaib Akhtar voiced his confusion on social media, questioning the absence of any PCB representative on such a significant international stage.
It was confirmed that no PCB officials were present at the DICS on Sunday. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi opted not to attend, delegating representation to Sumair Ahmed, the tournament director for the Pakistan leg. However, established protocol restricted podium access to elected board members and directors, thereby excluding Ahmed.
Similarly, Andre Russell, directing the Dubai leg of the tournament, was also not included on the podium. The exclusivity of the podium to office-bearers was maintained, as evidenced by the presence of only the aforementioned ICC and national board leaders.
The situation has sparked discussion on adherence to protocol versus representation needs at high-profile events, highlighting an aspect of event management and ceremony that may need addressing in future tournaments.
