22.03.2025Title: Strategic Recommendations for Prithvi Shaw’s Career Resurgence
The perplexing case of Prithvi Shaw continues to stir discussions within the Indian cricket community. Once touted as the heir to Sachin Tendulkar’s legacy, Shaw’s international career trajectory has unexpectedly stagnated after just five Tests, six ODIs, and a solitary T20I appearance for India. Currently 25, Shaw’s cricketing career reached a new nadir when he went unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction and was subsequently omitted from Mumbai’s line-ups for both the Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophies.
Shashank Singh, a rising star with the Punjab Kings and former Mumbai teammate, ventured insights into Shaw’s challenges. During an appearance on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast, Singh included Shaw among India’s promising future openers, alongside talents like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Addressing Shaw’s setbacks, Singh remarked, “Prithvi Shaw is grossly underrated. Revisiting his fundamentals may open the doors to limitless possibilities. Knowing him since he was 13 from our club cricket days in Mumbai, it’s not entirely clear what’s amiss. Perhaps his distinct outlook on certain matters holds him back.”
Singh further suggested specific lifestyle adjustments, “A shift in work discipline could be beneficial. Maybe retiring for the night at 10 PM, amending dietary habits.” However, Singh acknowledged Shaw’s existing support network, “It’s probable he’s already considering these changes, and likely receives guidance from others more qualified than myself.”
Shaw recently captained the ‘Route Mobile’ team in the DY Patil T20 2025 tournament. Despite setting a base price of INR 75 lakh, he failed to garner interest from the ten IPL franchises during the auction.
In contrast, Singh’s career is on an upward trajectory following a standout season with PBKS, amassing 354 runs at an impressive strike rate of nearly 165. His phenomenal performance not only secured his retention for INR 5.5 crore but also positioned him as PBKS’ first choice ahead of the upcoming season. Singh’s growing prominence resulted in him ranking as the ninth-most searched athlete on Google in 2024, the only other Indian besides Hardik Pandya to make the top 10.
Shashank Singh is set to play under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership in IPL 2025, as Punjab Kings strive for their inaugural title victory.
