28.03.2025**Anticipated Indian Debuts in IPL 2025: Ex-CSK Star Eyes Key Performances Against MI at Chepauk**
As IPL 2025 commences, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to face off against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their opening match this Sunday. Former India fast-bowler and current IPL analyst, Lakshmipathy Balaji, has expressed keen interest in observing the performances of two promising uncapped bowlers, Anshul Kamboj and Gurjapneet Singh, as CSK begins their campaign.
Anshul Kamboj, a pace-bowling all-rounder, previously made his IPL debut with the Mumbai Indians last season before being acquired by CSK at the mega auction. Kamboj’s noteworthy feats include an eight-wicket haul in the Duleep Trophy and an impressive 10-wicket haul during a Ranji Trophy innings playing for Haryana against Kerala. Complementing him is left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh, who has amassed 22 wickets over two seasons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) with an economy rate of 7.3. Despite missing part of the Ranji Trophy due to injury, he is now fully fit and training with CSK.
Balaji, discussing the eagerly anticipated debuts, stated, “The Chepauk wicket has historically been conducive to bounce and swing, particularly in evening matches. I believe Anshul Kamboj’s ability to move the new ball could be a significant asset for CSK. Gurjapneet Singh, with his impressive record in the TNPL, also stands out as a talent to watch.”
In terms of CSK’s bowling strategy, Balaji acknowledges the return of pacer Matheesha Pathirana, emphasizing his role in the death overs previously held by Dwayne Bravo. Balaji also highlights all-rounder Sam Curran, suggesting that his dual capabilities with the bat and ball bring strategic depth to CSK’s lineup.
On the batting front, Balaji advocates for Rahul Tripathi at the pivotal number three position due to his consistent record at Chepauk, favoring him over options like Deepak Hooda and Vijay Shankar. “Rahul Tripathi’s ability to maintain a high strike rate in the upper order is crucial. Deepak Hooda, with his off-spin potential against left-handers, offers additional strategic benefits,” Balaji explained.
Reflecting on the evolution of the IPL, Balaji, who has been associated with the tournament since its inception in 2008, celebrates its global impact. “The IPL has not only elevated the game’s international standards but has also become a benchmark for excellence, akin to prestigious tournaments like the English Premier League or Formula 1,” he remarked.
Having witnessed IPL’s growth firsthand, Balaji is currently a valued analyst for JioStar. As IPL 2025 unfolds, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the depth of talent that the league continues to spotlight and nurture.
