Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the independent Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a position he will occupy starting December 1, 2024. Currently serving as the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, Shah was the sole nominee for this prestigious role. Upon his election, he expressed his dedication to broadening cricket’s international appeal and presence, especially considering the sport’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

According to a report by news18.com, the ICC, which comprises 16 members, witnessed Shah receiving support from 15, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remaining passive throughout the process. The report cites a source noting, “The PCB was a silent observer. Although their input wasn’t necessary due to the overwhelming support Shah had garnered, they chose to remain on the sidelines during the entire proceeding.”

Following his election, Jay Shah remarked, “I am truly honored by this nomination to chair the International Cricket Council. I am devoted to collaborating with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalize cricket. We are at a pivotal moment where the balance of various formats, the advancement of technology, and introducing cricket to new markets are crucial. Our aim is to make cricket more inclusive and vibrant than ever.”
