In a significant development for women’s cricket, Lahore will play host to the Women’s World Cup Qualifier starting on April 9. The esteemed Gaddafi Stadium and the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground will serve as the venues for this 10-day, 15-match league tournament, which aims to identify the two teams qualifying for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in India during October and November.
The tournament welcomes six formidable teams vying for the coveted World Cup berths, including hosts Pakistan. They will compete against formidable sides from the West Indies, Bangladesh, and Ireland, as well as two Associate Members, Scotland and Thailand. The latter were the next best-ranked teams as of the qualification cut-off on October 28, 2024. Pakistan is set to kick off the tournament in a high-stakes opener against Ireland, while West Indies will face off against Scotland in another intriguing match-up on the same opening day.
The competition will culminate with the two leading teams in the standings earning their spots in the World Cup roster.
Already securing their participation in the World Cup are Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the host nation India, all of whom have qualified by finishing in the top six of the ICC Women’s Championship (2022-25).
