Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade is set to return to the Gujarat Titans for IPL 2025, this time taking on a vital role within the team’s support structure. The 37-year-old, who retired from international cricket in October of the previous year, will assume the position of Assistant Coach. Wade will work alongside a distinguished backroom team that includes Ashish Nehra as Head Coach, Parthiv Patel as Batting Coach, and Assistant Coaches Aashish Kapoor and Narender Negi.
Wade’s association with the Titans spans two IPL seasons (2022 and 2024), during which he participated in 12 matches and accumulated 161 runs. Following his retirement from international cricket, Wade quickly transitioned into coaching, initially serving under Andre Borovec for a T20I series against Pakistan as the main coaching staff prepared for an ensuing Test series against India.
Since their inception in 2022, the Gujarat Titans have made a significant impact in the IPL, reaching the finals in their first two seasons and clinching the title in their debut year. However, their performance dipped last season, winning only five out of 14 league matches and finishing eighth among the 10 competing teams.
