The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host a crucial pre-season meeting for all Indian Premier League (IPL) team captains this Thursday at its Mumbai headquarters. This assembly, taking place at noon, will also include the managers from all ten franchises, as initially reported by Cricbuzz.
The BCCI/IPL management has communicated via email that this engagement, primarily a briefing, will occur at the Cricket Centre and is expected to last for approximately one hour. The primary objective is to apprise participants of any new regulations or amendments for the forthcoming season. Subsequent to the briefing, sponsor-related activities are scheduled to occur at the Taj Hotel.
The comprehensive agenda is designed to span four hours and will conclude with the traditional photo session featuring all team captains. Traditionally, these meetings and photo ops are convened in the city hosting the season opener. However, the decision to hold the event at the BCCI office this year indicates the potential unveiling of more substantial developments beyond standard rule reviews.
With Axar Patel recently being appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals, the full roster of team leaders is as follows: Hardik Pandya (MI), Pat Cummins (SRH), Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Rishabh Pant (LSG), Shreyas Iyer (PBKS), Sanju Samson (RR), Ajinkya Rahane (KKR), and Shubman Gill (GT).
Most of the captains, alongside their teammates who competed in the Champions Trophy, have arrived at their respective camps. Pat Cummins touched down in Hyderabad on Sunday and has committed to being fully available for the IPL season, notwithstanding the proximity of the World Test Championship final at Lord’s on June 11—merely a fortnight after the IPL final on May 25.
The IPL season commences at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on March 22, with the reigning champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, facing off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
