26.03.2025**IPL 2025: Ottis Gibson Joins Kolkata Knight Riders as Assistant Coach**
*By Cricbuzz Staff*
Ottis Gibson, the distinguished former fast bowler for the West Indies, has been appointed as the Assistant Coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in preparation for the IPL 2025 season. At 55, Gibson brings his wealth of experience to a coaching team that features Chandrakant Pandit as the head coach, Dwayne Bravo serving as a mentor, Bharat Arun as the bowling coach, and Carl Crowe specializing in spin bowling coaching.
Gibson has built an impressive coaching résumé after his four-year tenure as a player for the West Indies. On the international stage, he has had two periods as England’s bowling coach. Additionally, he served as the head coach of the West Indies from 2010 to 2014—during which he led them to their inaugural T20 World Cup victory in 2012—and South Africa from 2017 to 2019. His coaching journey also includes roles with Bangladesh, Yorkshire County, and various T20 franchises.
Following the departure of last season’s mentor Gautam Gambhir, who has taken over the leadership of the Indian men’s senior team, KKR is set to feature a revamped backroom staff. Joining Gambhir in the India national setup are Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, further altering the dynamics at KKR.
The defending champions, KKR, are scheduled to begin their title defense on March 22 at home, facing off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Ajinkya Rahane will take the helm as captain, with Venkatesh Iyer stepping in as vice-captain, marking a new leadership era for the team.
