Junail Zafar Khan, a cricketer of Pakistani descent, tragically passed away after collapsing during a local match amidst harsh weather conditions at Concordia College. In his 40s, Khan was competing for the Old Concordians Cricket Club against Prince Alfred Old Collegians this past Saturday, according to news.com.au. Post fielding for 40 overs and taking to bat for seven, Khan succumbed to the intense heat, collapsing at around 4 PM ACDT. South Australia had been experiencing extreme heat, with the Bureau of Meteorology recording temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius at the match time. Adelaide Turf Cricket Association regulations stipulate that matches are halted if temperatures exceed 42 degrees Celsius.
“We are profoundly saddened by the passing of a cherished member of the Old Concordians Cricket Club, who endured a medical emergency on the Concordia College oval today,” expressed Khan’s club in a statement. “Despite the dedicated efforts of paramedics, he unfortunately could not be revived. Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with his family, friends, and teammates during this challenging time.” Reports indicate that Khan had relocated to Adelaide from Pakistan in 2013 for employment within the IT sector.
