In light of the forthcoming 2025 Indian Premier League season, Lucknow Super Giants find themselves navigating a challenging landscape as their key pace bowlers grapple with injuries. Esteemed mentor Zaheer Khan emphasized the importance of adaptability in the face of such uncertainties. Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, Lucknow is set to launch its campaign at the ACAVDCA Cricket Stadium on March 24, yet the timelines for the return of pivotal players like Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan remain uncertain.
“We’re in close liaison with the National Cricket Academy concerning our players’ recovery. The IPL’s dynamic nature necessitates readiness for unforeseen circumstances. Our strategy incorporates a squad of 24 players, aiming to showcase a brand of cricket that resonates with our ethos and secures victories. The team is driven by a positive mindset, promising an assertive approach,” stated Zaheer during a press briefing.
The absence of bowling prodigy Mayank Yadav, who has resumed net sessions, emerges as a significant setback for the side, pending fitness clearance from the BCCI. Mayank is recuperating from a lumbar stress injury at Bengaluru’s Centre of Excellence after sustaining it post his debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh last October. While initial reports suggested his potential absence for the first half of IPL 2025, recent developments offer promising signs of an earlier comeback, much to the anticipation of Lucknow’s ardent supporters.
The 22-year-old speedster made headlines with his blistering pace, exceeding 150 kmph, during his IPL debut last year. Despite playing only four matches, he hauled seven wickets and earned two consecutive Player of the Match awards before an injury truncated his season.
Facing a compromised bowling lineup, the Lucknow franchise is actively seeking to bridge these gaps to maintain strong early momentum in the tournament. Amidst prevailing uncertainty, Shardul Thakur and Shivam Mavi were observed participating in the LSG nets.
“Injuries demand a tailored approach to management. While they pose a challenge, our focus remains on delivering quality cricket. With the right captain in Rishabh Pant and a robust team, we are poised for strong performances,” Zaheer concluded.
