25.03.2025### Ongoing Security Concerns Prompt Potential Rescheduling of IPL 2025 Fixture in Kolkata
The Kolkata Knight Riders’ scheduled IPL home encounter with the Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 at Eden Gardens is facing likely rescheduling due to security issues. According to reports, the Kolkata police have abstained from providing security clearance in light of the Ram Navami festivities.
Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent political leader, announced that over 20,000 processions are planned across West Bengal for Ram Navami, significantly straining the state’s security resources. Following two meetings with city police officials on Tuesday, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Snehasish Ganguly confirmed the lack of clearance. “The authorities have explicitly stated their inability to ensure sufficient security. Hosting such a large gathering without adequate protection is unfeasible,” remarked Snehasish. He further noted, “We have communicated the situation to the BCCI, and there remains a window to make a final decision. A similar rescheduling occurred last year due to the same occasion.”
The match-up between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), owned by RPSG Group Chairman Sanjiv Goenka, was anticipated to attract a full house, given the robust local following both teams enjoy. Previously, in the last season, KKR’s match against Rajasthan Royals had to be rescheduled due to similar security concerns over Ram Navami.
#### Command Ready: The Knights of Kolkata
Under the leadership of Captain Ajinkya Rahane, the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders prepare to assert their dominance in the upcoming season. The 2025 IPL season is set to commence at Eden Gardens on March 22, with a much-anticipated clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. A spectacular 35-minute opening ceremony will kick off proceedings, likely featuring performances by acclaimed singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani. Expected dignitaries include ICC Chairman Jay Shah and other notable figures in the cricket world. “It’s a premium event with tremendous demand for tickets. After an extended hiatus, Eden Gardens will host an opening ceremony, but we aren’t commenting on specific details,” added Snehasish.
