The 37-year-old, who had previously failed two assessments, has finally emerged from under the cloud of a suspect bowling action. This recent clearance is a welcome relief for Shakib, who had been omitted from Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy squad due to his inability to contribute as a bowler. Consequently, he missed participating in the ICC event, which he had hoped would serve as his farewell tournament on the international stage.
Proving the adage of being “third-time lucky,” Shakib cleared this latest test in England. In a conversation with Cricbuzz, he expressed his joy upon confirmation of the results, stating, “The news is right; I have been cleared to bowl again.”
Shakib’s bowling action first garnered attention during a County Championship encounter for Surrey against Somerset in September 2024. Following this, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) suspended him after an independent assessment deemed his action illegal. He subsequently undertook two additional reassessments in England and India, both of which unfortunately resulted in failure, leading to a suspension from bowling duties.
