28.03.2025Former Australian spinner, Brad Hogg, has found himself in a controversy following the circulation of a video online, where he appears to mock Pakistan’s white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan, for his English language skills. The video, which has rapidly gained attention on social media platforms, features an impersonator mimicking Rizwan’s English, while Hogg is visibly entertained. This incident has drawn sharp criticism from Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Jamal, who expressed disappointment with Hogg’s actions, labeling them as “shameful.” He emphasized that English is Rizwan’s third language, after Pashto and Urdu, and suggested that Hogg’s antics might be more suited to platforms like TikTok, rather than the cricket community.
Jamal voiced his disapproval on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating: “I watched a video circulating on Twitter and other social media platforms. It is a very shameful act from @Brad_Hogg, who calls himself an international cricketer. Making fun of @iMRizwanPak’s English, which is his third language, not even his second, is disappointing. Perhaps you should consider becoming a #TikToker, as you may need followers and attention by making fun of others; that platform suits you more than the cricket community.”
In the contentious video, the impersonator humorously compares himself to India’s star batsman, Virat Kohli, saying, “I and Virat are alike. He drinks water. I drink water. He eats food. I eat food. We are both the same; there is no difference.” The video also references Rizwan’s viral phrase, “Ya to win hai ya learn hai.” Following Pakistan’s exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy group stage, Rizwan has become a subject of internet humor, specifically targeting his English.
Recently omitted from Pakistan’s T20I squad for the ongoing series against New Zealand, Rizwan, along with former captain Babar Azam, will still feature in the upcoming ODI series. Brad Hogg, a two-time World Cup winner with Australia, has enjoyed a distinguished career, taking 156 wickets in 123 ODIs and participating in the IPL with various franchises, including Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Meanwhile, Pakistan trails New Zealand 0-2 in the five-match series, following losses in Wellington and Dunedin. As the series progresses, New Zealand is positioned to secure a series victory with another triumph in the third match in Auckland.
