By Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on
Cricket Ireland has confirmed an exhilarating summer schedule for 2025, featuring tours from the West Indies, England, Zimbabwe Women, and Pakistan Women, as announced on Tuesday (March 11). This announcement follows their participation in the T20 World Cup last year in the United States.
In a significant highlight, the Irish men’s team is set to host the West Indies for three One Day Internationals (ODIs) in Clontarf towards the end of May, followed by a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series in June in Bready. Post these encounters, Irish players will participate in the European T20 Premier League during July and August. Following this, Ireland will welcome England for an inaugural bilateral T20I series in September.
On the women’s front, the team will engage in a series of T20 matches, facing Zimbabwe in five encounters and Pakistan in three during July and August. Additionally, Cricket Ireland has scheduled the Ireland Wolves for a four-day match against Afghanistan A in the UAE, succeeded by a one-day tri-series also featuring Sri Lanka A.
However, amid this packed schedule, Cricket Ireland has announced the cancellation of their home series against Afghanistan originally scheduled for this year. This decision arises amidst escalating calls from the ICC for action against Afghanistan; however, Cricket Ireland has clarified that the series has been canceled strictly for financial reasons.
Warren Deutrom, Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland, commented, “As we often say, if it’s summer, it must be cricket. This summer, Irish fans will have the opportunity to witness some of the world’s best cricketers in action right here. We are thrilled to host the West Indies and England on the men’s side, and the Zimbabwe and Pakistan women’s sides as well.”
He further expanded, “The planned series against Afghanistan will not proceed due to financial constraints. This decision is part of our strategy to manage short-term budgetary restrictions and to ensure compliance with the Board’s directive to maintain balanced investment across our strategic objectives.”
